Arrival in India (New Delhi)
Welcome to Incredible India. On arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport you will be greeted by our Explore India representative who will transfer you to your hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the amenities at the hotel.

Day 3:
Delhi
After breakfast we will start our tour with a visit to the house of Mahatma Gandhi, a place where Mr. Gandhi’s epic life ended on January 30th, 1948. Mahatma Gandhi lived in this house from September 9th, 1947 until his death, and the house is home to many treasures and memorial items from the last 144 days of his life. The house was acquired by the Government of India in 1971 and was converted into a National Memorial of Gandhi, “Father of the Nation” and was opened to the public on August 15, 1973. As you walk through Gandhi’s home it’s as though you feel the majesty of his presence still alive, a truly fascinating and memorable step back in time that will leave you with a quiet stillness but a lifted heart. The building and the landscape have been preserved to the lush beauty that filled the eyes of the beloved teacher and will impress you as well as you stroll the grounds.
Our next visit is Gurudwara Bangala Sahib – originally a lavish Bungalow converted into a Sikh shrine frequented by people of all faiths. In addition to beautiful prayer hall and a pond of water (considered to be holy) the shrine also tries that nobody sleeps hungry under the blessings of the divine soul. The Gurudwara has a Langar Hall, (community kitchen) where clean and nutritious meals are provided for all regardless of race, caste, gender or religion without any charges. The community meals are provided from 12:00 AM – 11: 45 PM and are open to everyone who visits the place. Common people render services to the Almighty by helping out in the kitchen or service, which is believed to be one of the most blessed prayer services in the shrine.
After lunch we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Humayun’s Tomb. Humayun was the second Mughal Emperor of India and the tomb was built by his widow, Biga Begum in 1569, 14 years after his death, at a cost of 1.5 million rupees. It was later used for the burial of various members of the ruling family and contains some 150 graves. It has aptly been described as the necropolis of the Mughal dynasty.
After our visit we will return to our hotel for a small break before we leave for our welcome dinner and traditional India dance and music.

Day 4:
Old Delhi Sightseeing-Jama Mosque-Chandni Chowk-Akshardham Temple
After your breakfast at the hotel you will start the morning tour by exploring 17th Century Old Delhi. Visit the Jama Mosque, the royal mosque built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656. We will take a bicycle rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, the spine of Old Delhi that houses the spice market and jeweler’s lane and then proceed to Old Delhi for the Exclusive Heritage Walk. During this historical walk you can disengage from the rest of the world and walk the streets of Shahjahanabad (Chandni Chowk) with your guide. Discover and experience the real Delhi that you will not find in the guide books. You get an insight into the history and heritage of India, discover the lifestyle and age-old practices of locals and see more in just a few hours than most usually ever see and experience. The area is also home to several old temples, shrines, mosques, and old Havelis (havelis are private mansions in the old city in which a single family has been living from generations). Next, visit one of the oldest spice markets in Asia.
Later, we will visit Akshardham Temple. The term ‘Akshardham’ is derived from two words ‘Akshar’ and ‘Dham’ and it means ‘eternal abode’. The temple is the embodiment of India’s rich legacy of traditions, ancient architecture, and everlasting spiritual messages. This is a wonderful place to walk around and tour with its grand opulence in such a tranquil setting of nature and beauty.

Day 5:
Delhi – Varanasi
After breakfast we will fly to the holy city of Varanasi. Varanasi is formerly known as Kashi, the city that illuminates. It is the religious capital of Hinduism and one of the oldest living cities in the world.
Upon arrival we will be transferred to our hotel.
Hindus believe the banks of the Ganges is the most sacred place on earth to die
Up to 300 people are cremated at the sacred site every day to liberate their souls to find nirvana and be reborn
It is believed anyone who dies in Varanasi breaks the cycle of death and rebirth and achieves nirvana (moksha)
Legend says that the flames of the funeral pyres at Manikarnika Ghats have been burning for some 3,000 years.
In the early evening we will go to the banks of the Ganges to witness the devotional ceremony of Aarti performed by devout Hindus. Afterwards, we will return back to hotel and enjoy dinner at the hotel.

Day 6:
Varanasi-Ganges Bathing Ghats – Boat Tour Along The Ganges
A memorable day ahead as we leave early in the morning to board our boat for a ride along the Ganges to see the bathing Ghats and cremation site. We will watch the sunrise on the riverfront from a boat which can be a moving spiritual experience as you witness the worship and sites along the river. Life on the Ghats is bound by an endless string of rituals and the ever-changing aspects of the river and the wide landscapes throughout the area have fascinated visitors from all over the world. You will become entranced by the sights and sounds of those worshipping in this amazingly beautiful, mysterious, and ancient place. Return to the hotel for breakfast.
Later we will explore Sarnath, the site where Buddha preached his first sermon. After attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gayathe, Buddha went to Sarnath and it was here that he preached his first discourse in the deer park to set in motion the ‘Wheel of the Dharma’. It is one of the holiest sites because in this place the stream of the Buddha’s teaching first flowed. Sarnath was a renowned school of learning from 16th century BC to 12th century AD. We will visit the ruins, the stupa, the Buddhist temple and the museum. There will also be time for shopping for silk materials that Varanasi is famous for.
In the evening we will have the option to attend a unique heritage walking experience called Death & Rebirth in Banaras Night Walk.

Day 7:
Varanasi – Agra (Air Dep: 12:20 / Arrive: 13:30)
We leave after breakfast to the airport for our flight to Agra, the city of the famous Taj mahal. Upon arrival in Agra, we are welcomed and then we will check into the hotel and have lunch.
In the late afternoon enjoy a cup of coffee at Sheros Café Hangout. This bright and welcoming café is run by survivors of acid attacks. It is the story of how these strong women were brutally attacked, often by their own family members, but have overcome their scars and fears to speak out against this violence through working together and, through their business, educating the public about familial and non-familial violence against women.
In the early evening we will enjoy the live show of Mumtaz & Shahjahan Mohabbat, a fascinating play that depicts the saga of love and a memorable journey into history. The drama portrays the Mughal era in the 16th century. It is a series of plays depicting the true and immortal love of Shahjahan for Mumtaz Mahal, his beautiful wife; the lavish lifestyle of Mughal era; and the hardship of the artisans who worked for 22 years to create the most precious example of mastery, artistry, and craftsmanship.

Day 8:
Agra - Taj Mahal -Agra Fort
We will start our day at sunrise with a visit to one of the most incredible monuments ever built in the world. The Taj Mahal is a monument of love built between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. The Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.
After breakfast, we will visit Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with imposing walls of red sandstone. The fort is almost two miles long and contains palaces, audience halls and mosques.
Today, a very special lunch has been planned for you at a place that is rarely open to the public. This is an absolutely charming experience where you will have a privately catered lunch all while looking at the hilltop view of The Taj Mahal. Few get this opportunity and it will be a highlight of your trip. Imagine the tranquillity of basking in the radiance of the Taj Mahal and having a beautiful lunch at the same time, all in the peace of just your small group as there will be no other people at this location. Located at a distance of approximately 300 meters from the Taj Mahal, on a lush green mound that offers an uninterrupted view of the Taj. Legend has it that the mud that was dug up to build the Taj Mahal was collected at a little distance away. Over time it formed into the hillock mound that is now called Taj Khema. It serves as the most scenic vantage point to marvel at the beauty of the Taj Mahal. You have the opportunity as well to get photos of The Taj Mahal from this unique vantage point. (Minimum of 14 participants are required for this exclusive event)
After lunch, we will visit a well-renowned marble factory to experience the making of fine inlaid stonework and translucent marble of the region. The craftsmen of Agra are still celebrated for the exquisite marble-inlay work that has made Agra’s monuments famous.
In the evening, we will have dinner at the hotel.

Day 9:
Agra – Bharatpur – Village Experience – Train to Sawimadhopur (5 Hours)
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel we will leave for Ranthambhore National Park. On the way to Ranthambhore, we will stop at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Often referred to as Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary has one of the most diverse bird lives’ in the country. Two-thirds of the park lies under water and the remaining one-third is covered with dry deciduous forests and extensive grasslands.
Later, you will enjoy lunch at the Udai Vilas Palace in Bharatpur.
After lunch you will be transferred to the railway station to board your train for Sawai Madhopur, Once the 2.5 hours train trip is complete you will be met by an Explore India representative and transferred to your hotel.
Dinner at the hotel.
Ranthambhore National Park is the true den of the tigers, near the confluence of the lakes Padam Talab, Raj Bagh Talab and Milak Talab. Apart from the Bengal Tiger, other animals that inhabit the park are: Sloth Bears, Jackals, Marsh Crocodile, Leopard, Gazelle, Indian Hare, Porcupines, Jungle Cat, Sambhar, Chinkara, Mongoose, Nilgai, Wild Boar and Monitor Lizards. Birds can also be seen in large numbers here. The landscape of the park is dominated by shallow lakes, gentle slopes and plateaus.

Day 10:
Ranthambhore – Game Drives In Search Of The Bengal Tiger
Your day will begin with pre-dawn coffee and biscuits before setting off on an early morning game drive (6AM – 10:00AM) by private jeep with an accompanying naturalist in search of the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. Return for your breakfast.
In the afternoon you will return to the park between (2:30PM – 5:30PM) for another game drive, ending our day just before sunset. Dinner is at the hotel.

Day 11:
Ranthambhore – Jaipur -Cooking Class With Famous Rajput Chef (4 Hours)
After breakfast, we will start our drive to Jaipur, otherwise known as the ‘Pink City’, one of the few cities in India which was a planned city. Jaipur sits in the pink coloured Rajasthani hills and also gets its name from its pink, lime-plastered buildings. Jaipur owes its foundation and careful planning to the great warrior, astronomer Maharaja Jai Singh II. In 1727, with Mughal power on the wane, Jai Singh decided to move down from his hillside fortress nearby Amber to a new site on the plains. He laid out the city with surrounding walls and six rectangular blocks, according to the principles of town planning set down in Shilpa Shastra, an ancient Hindu treatise on architecture.
Upon arrival you will check in at your hotel and have the afternoon to spend at your leisure.
Cooking class with a local family – this evening we will spend an interesting, educational and social evening at a house that belongs to a well-known Rajput family to learn some great techniques in Rajasthani Indian Cuisine in coordination with your in-house chefs. You’ll be taken in to their kitchen where the cooking demonstration will commence. You will be shown how each dish is cooked. The evening will culminate in a lovely dining experience where you will be able to enjoy the taste of the freshly prepared meal as you are served as a guest in their beautiful dining room.

Day 12:
Jaipur-Amber Fort-City Palace Museum
After breakfast we venture to the outskirts of Jaipur where we will be greeted and transported up the steep hill to the magnificent Amber Fort by jeeps. Later, we proceed for a city tour of Jaipur and stop for a photo at the Hawa Mahal, the “Palace of the Winds.” This incredible building was built to allow the royal ladies of the palace to discretely watch the grand processions along the main street.
Next, we visit the City Palace Museum which has a priceless collection of antiques, costumes, and armory of the Mughals and Rajputs including swords of different shapes and sizes with chiseled handles. We then continue to the Jantar Mantar Observatory which was built in the early 1700s by Maharaja Jai Sing II, the great warrior-astronomer to which this city owes its name. The afternoon is free for shopping or as you wish. Dinner at hotel.

Day 13:
Jaipur - Jodhpur-Auto Rikshaw Ride-Clock Tower (5 Hours)
After breakfast we will drive to Jodhpur, along the way you will experience the country with camel carts trucks, cows, and buffalos. Jodhpur is a historic city whose origin dates to the year 1459 AD. Jodhpur is also known as the ‘Blue City’, an apt name as most houses in the old city are shades of blue. This is particularly noticeable on the north side of the town, known as Brahmpuri for the many Brahmins that live there. On arrival check in at your hotel.
After lunch we will check-in to our rooms and have time to relax. Later in the afternoon we will enjoy an auto rikshaw ride and visit the market around the Clock Tower area on foot, Jodhpur’s busiest marketplace.
Dinner this evening will be at The Old Haveli. This is a beautiful place that is romantic and has superb views to the fort, clock tower and historical Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Jodhpur-Mehrangarh Fort-Camel Safari With Campfire Dinner & Music
After breakfast we will start with a sightseeing tour of Jodhpur city visiting Mehrangarh Fort situated at an altitude of about 125 meters and spread over an area of 5 sq. km. The Fort crowns a rocky hill that rises 400 feet above the surrounding plain, and appears both to command and to meld with the landscape. One of the largest forts in Rajasthan, it contains some of the finest palaces and preserves in its museum and many priceless relics of Indian courtly life. For over five centuries Mehrangarh has been the headquarters of the senior branch of Rajput clan known as the Rathores.
Next, visit Umaid Bhawan Palace built by Maharaja Umaid Singh (1929 – 1942) and also named after him. This exquisite palace is also known as Chittar Palace because of the local chittar sandstone used in it. It is a splendid example of Indo-colonial and art deco architecture of the 30s.
After lunch we will return back to the hotel for a break before we embark on our exclusive camel safari experience in the outskirts of Jodhpur.
In the evening, we will experience an exclusive camel safari in the Osian village about an hour drive each way from Jodhpur, then we will see Kalbelia, a local village dance of Rajasthan, to celebrate our time in the desert, followed by a home cooked dinner and campfire. This is a wonderful experience and one you will be sure to enjoy.

Day 15:
Jodhpur – Ranakpur – Udaipur (6 Hours)
After breakfast we leave for Udaipur. On our way we will stop to visit the 12th Century temple Ranakpur Jain. This marvelous feat of architecture is built from intricately sculpted marble. There are 108 carved pillars, each carved in its own unique design. This cluster of temples is truly a site to see, have your camera ready!
After lunch we will continue our drive to Udaipur.
Udaipur is a magical city that is surrounded by the lush Aravalli Hills and situated along the sapphire-hued waters of Pichola Lake. Udaipur has a romance unlike anywhere else in India, a very special place you will never forget. A city that combines glamour with refined beauty, Udaipur, with its iconic landmarks Lake Palace and City Palace, has a magnificent splendour about it that you will feel every moment of your visit. Whether you are browsing the galleries or ancient bazaars or enjoying a boat ride on the tranquil steel blue waters of Pichola Lake, you will feel as though you are a character in a beautiful fairy tale. Day 16:
Udaipur-City Palace-Boat Cruise On Lake Pichola
After breakfast we will tour Udaipur and visit City Palace, a conglomeration of buildings added by various Maharanas. Despite its numerous suitors, the palace manages to retain a surprising uniformity of design. Next, we will visit the Gallery located at the City Palace. It has a rare collection of Osler’s crystal ordered from England by Maharana Sajjan Singh in 1877.
Boat cruise at Lake Picchola – We will explore this glimmering lake, the mountains and the city against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset. Along the way, see historical landmarks dotted along the shore such as the City Palace Complex and the picturesque Ghats (steps leading down to the water).

Day 17:
Udaipur – Mumbai (Air Dep: 07:00 Arrive: 08:20)
Early in the morning we will be transferred to Udaipur Airport for our flight to Mumbai.
Mumbai is a combination of seven islands that was reclaimed slowly. The city was a part of the kingdom of Ashoka, a famous king of medieval India. This is the fourth most populated city in the world.
We will be met upon arrival and then leave by coach to Dhobi Ghats. A unique feature of Mumbai, the dhobi is a traditional laundryman, who will collect your dirty linen, wash it, and return it neatly pressed to your doorstep – all for a very small price. The ‘laundries’ are called ‘Ghats’ which are row upon row of concrete wash pens, each fitted with its own flogging stone.
After our visit we will proceed to our iconic hotel ‘The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower’.
In the evening, we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 18:
Mumbai Sightseeing Tour-Dharavi-Thali Lunch
After breakfast we will tour Dharavi, also known as the ‘Slum Dog Millionaire Tour’.
The tour of Dharavi consists of the commercial and residential areas. In the residential areas the sense of community and good nature of the people will be apparent. While going through the residential area, you will get a sense of the conditions and problems that the residents face. In the commercial area you will see the recycling, food making, sewing, bakery, soap factory and pappad making areas. They all take place in small rooms, which you will see as we pass through the maze of small gullies.
Later, we will enjoy a Thali lunch. Thali, which means a round platter to serve food, is an Indian meal comprised of an assortment of various dishes all served in small bowls called katori, which are placed on a round tray. The idea behind a Thali is to offer all the 6 different flavours of sweet, salty, sour, bitter, astringent, and pungent at every meal and all on one plate.
This afternoon is yours to spend as you wish. Perhaps a stroll along the seawall or chai in one of the many Mumbai chai shops.

I would like to give you some feedback about my recent trip with Explore India, 'Impressions of India', which my wife, Dixie Koenig, and I began on November 14th, ending on the 30th. This travel experience gave me a fascinating insight into India, from exotic places like the Taj Mahal, the Ganges and the game preserve to the daily street scenes in the various places we visited and everything in between. The hotels we stayed in were first class, our tour bus was clean and comfortable and our domestic flights in India were flawlessly arranged for us. The train ride was quite an experience and I'm glad that it was on the agenda. Most of all, I would like to thank your staff, ALL of whom were highly professional and a credit to your company. This includes the young fellow who picked us up at Delhi airport and returned us there at the end of the trip, Rajiv, who met us on our first day and toured us (Dixie, me, Allan Mayer and Wendy Koenig) around Delhi for two days and got our trip off to a wonderful start, our tour bus driver, Malik, his assistant, Anil, and the local guides we encountered along the way. And, of course, Sandeep, our primary tour guide who was with us for nearly two weeks. Sandeep is most knowledgeable about India and its history and provided us with a wealth of information everywhere we went. He is articulate and passionate about his job and I think everyone enjoyed and benefitted from listening to his descriptions and explanations. But, most important of all, he took very good care of us and made sure that our needs were met and that things moved smoothly and according to plan. I had total confidence in his ability to lead our group. Your policy of focusing on small groups is of great benefit to the traveler. Our group of sixteen was most impressive. They were friendly, good humoured, enthusiastic and didn't hesitate to help one another out. I would happily and without reservation recommend Explore India to anyone planning a trip.

Hi Nazir What can I say about our Journey of the Senses Feb 2016 trip to India except that it was exactly what we wanted to experience and more! Nazir took care of every detail to make the trip unforgettable. We were met at the airport on arrival in Delhi and Nazir even had a representative at the Mumbai airport at midnight for our return home flight to make sure our check in went smoothly. How caring is that! We never touched our suitcases. They were collected from us outside our hotel rooms and they magical appeared outside (or inside) our rooms at the next hotel. No lugging them around. They also were loaded and unloaded for our inter India flights. No standing at a carousel waiting for our luggage. How caring is that! We never had to stand in line at our hotels to check in. We arrived at the hotels and our room keys were handed to us. How nice! The hotels we stayed in were opulent and very beautiful. They are at least 5 stars or above! The meals were excellent!!!! Nazir took us to wonderful beautiful places for lunch and dinner. He made sure we experienced the best Indian food. He was very sensitive to people’s needs and wants so a few times he had menus of American food and Chinese food for us in case we were tired of Indian food. How caring is that! Nazir checked each day to see if everyone was happy and to see if there was anything he could do for each and every one of us to make our trip more enjoyable. There always was nothing more he could do!! He had done it all and everything ran like clockwork! We truly experienced the sights, sounds, smells, traffic, noise, constant horn blowing, cows in the streets, dogs and wonderful people of India. Nazir is very proud of his country and so he should be. It is truly an amazing place to visit. The pedicab ride through the streets of Old Delhi was unbelievable and exhilarating with all the chaos. Unforgettable! Varanasi was truly spiritual with the pouring rain on the Ganges as we witnessed the Aarti ceremony. Nazir worked his magic with the Indian gods and the rain stopped as we boarded our boats to see the ceremony!! What can we say about the Taj Mahal except that it truly is spectacular! The special lunch Nazir arranged for us overlooking the Taj Mahal was very special. Not many people get treated so well. A very memorable day! Our elephant ride was wonderful and our camel ride on the sand dunes in the evening was spectacular. Sitting around the campfire with the singing and dancing and a full moon and our delicious meal served there was something we won’t forget. Thank you, Nazir, for such a memorable trip. You were the consummate host! Our memories of our trip will be with us forever.

When Canadians say, ‘nothing was too much trouble’, we may sometimes exaggerate, but in the case of EI, nothing could have been more apt and honest. No detail was too small, from our initial bookings and EI contacts by telephone to the ease we felt through each thread of the trip. Our destination was India, but our journey was irreplaceable. My gratitude and I believe I can speak for the whole group, would not be complete without further thanks to our EI tour guide, Harry Singh, but in this response, I will only speak for myself. Harry taught me many things. He and India are delightful enigmas. Not only was he the best tour guide I have ever had, but he became a kind of personal guru, banker, time manager, and friend. Tour guides come and go, but Harry lives and breathes his beloved India so much so that some of that rubbed off on each and every one of us. In fact, there were times when we had to rein him in, such was his enthusiasm. Harry describes himself as a spiritual healer, and again, some of that personal belief affected us most strongly and positively. He became our personal banker due to the demonetization that began just as we arrived in the country. Without his purse, some of us would have been in dire straits; without his knowledge of how to manage the monetary change, we would have become nervous travellers. Although we sometimes worried about time, as many Westerners do, Harry was able to manage India time for us smoothly and in an unruffled manner. He is also the best-dressed tour guide I have ever encountered. In the end, as the peaceful and kind people of India showed us, Harry was able to deepen our meaning of empathy and love. Hello Nazir, I very much enjoyed my tour with Explore India! Our tour group was lovely! I will recommend to my friends! The staff were very responsive to requests from the group. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was interesting to learn about India's history , current issues and how they are dealt with in India. Some definite highlights were the rickshaw ride through Old Delhi, visiting the soup kitchen at the Sikh temple, Taj Mahal, safari( excellent), and Jaipur elephant ride. Dear Nazir, Thank you so much for your note. We had a wonderful time in India, and cannot say enough good things about our guide, Jishoy, and his team. Our driver Aneesh and his helper were incredibly competent, in the traffic jams, the winding roads, the wild traffic, and even fixed a puncture on a very narrow mountain road, with road construction going on all around. We felt very safe and well looked after during the entire trip. Jishoy was extremely well informed about India....the history and the culture, and shared stories about many aspects of Indian life. He was always kind, and very patient with us, and with everyone with whom we had contact. He also has a great sense of humour, and I think many of us would have liked to take him home with us😊. Everything went very smoothly and without any bumps...except for the bumps on the Indian roads:) I really loved your country. If I had any suggestions to make, it would be to stay longer in some of the areas......perhaps 2 nights in each stop, or even three. However, we would not have been able to cover the area we did, if we hadn't moved along as quickly, so I don't know what the answer to that challenge might be. Thank you to everyone who put this trip together, and again great tributes to our leader, Jish, who did everything in his power to make it a very special event for all of us.
