Arrive In India (New Delhi)
Welcome to Delhi, a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling havelis and formidable mosques. In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi created by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings.

Day 3:
Old Delhi | Rickshaw Ride | Jama Mosque & Hindu Temple
This morning, we take a tour through Delhi. We begin exploring Old Delhi by visiting the Jama Mosque, the royal mosque built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in 1656. Then we ride a bicycle rickshaw through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, the spine of Old Delhi that houses the spice market and jeweler’s lane and then we drive pass Red Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). We also visit Rajghat, the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s final journey. Later, we will visit a Hindu temple followed by a welcome dinner in Connaught place. Overnight stay at the hotel.

New Delhi | Sikh Temple, Humayun’s Tomb & Qutab Minar
After breakfast, we start with a visit to India Gate (the war memorial dedicated to the martyrs of World War I), The President’s Palace – formerly Viceroy’s Palace, the Parliament House and the Secretariat buildings – an interesting blend of Victorian and 20th century architecture, later we tour Humayun’s Tomb, Qutab Minar and Bangla Sahib. Return to the hotel.

Delhi – Jaipur & The Pink City (265 KM – 5 Hours)
After breakfast, we leave for Jaipur which is known all over the world as the ‘Pink City’. Jaipur will amaze you with the architecture and planning of both its old and new cities. Experience how the city explodes into a kaleidoscope of colours and sounds at every corner. Jaipur is an excellent place to shop for textiles and designer jewelry.
In the evening, enjoy an authentic dining experience with a cultural Rajasthani traditional dance and music performance.

Day 6:
Jaipur | Amber Fort | Ride An Elephant & City Palace
In the morning, enjoy an excursion to the majestic Amber Fort Palace by Jeep which was built in 1593, later we proceed for a city tour and stop for a photo at the Hawa Mahal, the ‘Palace of the Winds’. It was built to allow the royal ladies of the palace to discreetly watch the grand processions along the main street. Next, we visit the City Palace Museum which has a priceless collection of antiques, costumes and armoury of the Mughals and Rajputs including swords of different shapes and sizes with chiselled handles. Then we continue to the Jantar Mantar Observatory which was built in the early 1700s by Maharaja Jai Sing II, the great warrior-astronomer, to which this city owes its name. We will have an overnight stay in Jaipur.

Day 7:
Jaipur – Ranthambore Tiger Reserve (180 Km / 4 hours)
After breakfast, we will leave for Ranthambore National Park, the true den of tigers, near the confluence of the lakes Padam Talab, Raj Bagh Talab and Milak Talab. Apart from the Bengal Tiger, other animals that inhabit the park are Sloth Bears, Jackals, Marsh Crocodiles, Leopards, Gazelles, Indian Hares, Porcupines, Jungle Cats, Sambhars, Chinkaras, Mongoose, Nilgais, Wild Boar and Monitor Lizards. Birds can also be seen in huge numbers here. Arrive and enjoy your lunch. The afternoon is free to be spent as you wish.
The Ranthambore National Park is equally rich in flora. Trees like Banyan, Dhok, Mango and Pipal are in abundance. Shallow lakes, gentle slopes and plateaus dominate the landscape of the park.

Ranthambore | In Search of Bengal Tiger
Your day will begin with pre-dawn coffee and biscuits before setting off on an early morning game drive in search of the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.
Return to the hotel for your breakfast.

Day 9:
Ranthambore – Agra | Village Visit & Fatehpur Sikri
After breakfast, we drive to Agra, the city of the famous Taj Mahal. On our way we will visit a local village to experience the day to day beauty of rural India You will have the opportunity to chat with the locals who will be very happy to have the opportunity to sit and chat with someone from such a faraway land. Later, continue to Agra before visiting Fatehpur Sikri, built by Emperor Akbar in 1569. This was the old capital of the Moghuls which was abandoned after 15 years due to the scarcity of water. Arrive and check in at your hotel.
In the evening, enjoy a live performance and fascinating play that depicts the saga of love and a memorable journey into the history of Taj Mahal. The drama portrays the Mughal era in the 16th century. Day 10:
Agra | Sunrise Visit to Mesmerizing Taj Mahal
We start our day at sunrise with a visit to one of the most incredible monuments ever built in the world, The Taj Mahal which is a mausoleum made of white marble, the monument of love. It was built between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife. The Taj Mahal is the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage.
After breakfast, we will continue our visit with a tour of the city of Agra and then visit Red Fort, which was built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, and additions were made up until the time of his grandson, Shah Jahan. It contains the hall of public and private audiences amongst many other beautiful structures. The afternoon is free to be spent as you wish.

Day 11:
Agra – Jhansi – Khajuraho | Indian Railway Experience
After an early breakfast, we begin our two-hour rail journey to Jhansi, a center of Bundela civilization and a medieval fortress-city. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our coach and continue driving to Orcha for lunch.
After lunch, we will continue by coach for Khajuraho, the land of the Kamasutra. Arrive in Khajuraho and check in at your hotel. The temples at Khajuraho were built during the Chandella dynasty which reached its apogee between 950 and 1050. Today only 20 temples remain and they fall into three distinct groups belonging to the religions of Hinduism and Jainism. They strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture. The temples are decorated with a profusion of sculptures that are among the greatest masterpieces of Indian art. Overnight stay.

Day 12:
Khajuraho – Varanasi The Holy Ganges
This morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of the famous Chandela Dynasty Temples which are set in a lovely grass park. These temples are amazing – rising in many peaks and spirals, intricately carved, and designed with statues and friezes. The erotic carvings on these temple walls have made this one of the most talked about tourist sites in the country and it is, perhaps, unmatched anywhere in the world.
Later, transfer to Khajuraho airport and fly to Varanasi the religious capital of Hinduism formerly known as Banaras during British Raj. Varanasi is home to one of the world’s most ancient cultures and is the oldest living city of India and home to one of the worlds’ most time-honoured and mysterious cultures dating back to 5000 years. Its present name is derived from the fact that the city is at the confluence of the rivers Varuna & Asi. Upon arrival we are transferred to our hotel.

Day 13:
Varanasi Bathing Ceremony | Explore Sarnath
In the early morning, we leave for a boat ride on the Ganges to see the bathing Ghats (river bank) and cremation site. We will watch the sunrise on the riverfront from a boat which can be a spiritually uplifting sight. Life on the Ghats is bound in an endless string of rituals; ever-changing aspects of the river and the wide landscapes throughout have fascinated visitors from all over the world. Return to the hotel for breakfast.
In the afternoon we enjoy a guided excursion to Sarnath which is the centre of Buddhist learning and the buried Buddhist city where Buddha preached his first sermon. After attaining enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, the Buddha went to Sarnath and it was here that he preached his first discourse in the deer park and set in motion the ‘Wheel of the Dharma’. It is one of the holiest sites as it is believed that in this place the stream of the Buddha’s teaching first flowed. Sarnath was a renowned school of learning from the 16th century BC to the 12th century AD. Visit the ruins, the stupa, the Buddhist temple and the museum. At the museum is the Ashok Pillar with its four guardian lions, used as independent India’s national emblem.
In the early evening, we will take a close look at the banks of the Ganges to witness the devotional ceremony of Aarti performed by thousands of devout Hindus, listen to the chanted prayers as the rhythmic drumming fills the air and bells ring from temples across the Holy Ganges.

Day 16:
Discover the Hidden Secrets of Kochi
After breakfast we will discover Kochi by visiting Paradesi Synagogue, the Dutch Palace, and St Francis Church which was built in 1510 by friars brought to India by Vasco da Gama. It is the first European church built in India and is the site where Vasco da Gama was buried.
Later, proceed to visit Kumbalangi which is a village located 13 kms away from Cochin and is identified as the first model fisheries village in India. On arrival at the village you will board a country boat. You can see the village folk engaged in different activities for their livelihood. Later, enjoy a sumptuous lunch from the local cuisine. After lunch take a ‘tuk-tuk’ ride through the narrow country roads before heading back to the hotel.

After breakfast drive to Munnar, where the amazing green space greets you. Munnar is breathtakingly beautiful, a haven of peace and tranquillity – the idyllic tourist destination in God’s own country. Munnar is the gateway of hills in South India. Munnar was the favoured summer resort of the British rulers in the colonial days. On the way you can spot the tranquil waterfalls in Cheeyappara. Discover Munnar & Rolling Hills
After breakfast, proceed for a morning sightseeing trip to Munnar. You will visit the Eravikulam National Park where you can see the rare mountain goats locally called the Nilgiri Tahr and you will also visit the Tata Tea Museum. Proceed to Mattupetty Dam site and Kundala which offers many alluring sights to enjoy. Kundala is a picturesque town located at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Stop by to see the colourful flowers in the Blossom Garden. Day 19:
Munnar – Thekkady – Wildlife & Spice Plantation (Approx. 3 HRS drive)
After breakfast, proceed to Thekkady which offers diverse attractions like the Wildlife Sanctuary, Hill Station and Spice Plantation. Nature’s own little hideout nestled in the hills of Thekkady.
In the afternoon proceed to the attractive Wildlife Sanctuary. The place where you go for a Wildlife cruise to view a large variety of wild elephants, deer, bison, boar, and more. There are also a large variety of birds to see.
Enjoy an evening visit to the spice plantation and drive back to hotel.

Thekkady – Alleppey (Famous Back Water Cruise) 3 HRS Drive

Namaste We had an amazing experience travelling through India and as always we wish we had more time there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Darjeeling. Our guide Sandeep was a jewel, such a wealth of knowledge. I don't think the trip would have been such a success had it not been for him. Many of us on the tour discussed coming back to travel to the south of India next time and possibly spending more time in some places, maybe even a few days to relax on the beach, possibly Goa? Also, Sandeep felt we would very much enjoy seeing Udaipur so maybe that could be included. Also, speaking for myself and Randy, maybe you could offer an optional tour to the Maldives as we would like to go there, even if it was just for 4-5 days. I know you offer a tour on your website for the south but why don't you send out an email to everyone that was on this tour asking what interest they may have for seeing the south and maybe based on the responses you can put together a more customized tour. Of course, Sandeep will have to be the guide and he did say he would do it. We talked about late Oct, early Nov 2018, that seemed to work for everyone. He went above and beyond to ensure we all had a memorable experience, even arranging a camel ride for a few of us on the last day! The driver and assistant were excellent as well. The itinerary was well thought out & interesting; the hotels were excellent & the food amazing. I plan to return someday; what a wonderful country. Hello Nazir, The Journey of the Senses was truly an amazing trip and there are many things to reflect on. It is difficult to process it all at once. The pictures and the memories certainly help. I am working at putting together a travel journal so I don't forget it all! There, of course, were many highlights, but three key highlights for us were the community kitchen at the Gurduwara Bangla Sahib [we would have loved more time there], the visits to the ghats in Varanasi and the tour of the slum in Mumbai. I'm so glad that we switched to the February tour from a private tour in December, and that we chose a tour that you were leading. You and your team thought of everything, and took care of every small detail, including a proper toilet in the middle of the desert!. Not having to deal with our luggage, checking in at the airports, or lining up for hotel keys was a real treat. The guides, especially Yajur, were great, and we felt very safe and protected with Ravi and Shenkar. The special events - welcome dinner, elephant and camel safaris, lunch at Taj Khema and the dinner with Joti in Udaipur were amazing, each surprise exceeding the other. And a special thank you for arranging my trip to the dentist in Jodhpur. These kinds of unexpected medical issues can be stressful, but you calmly took care of every detail. Again, Nazir, thank you for a great time-enjoyable, educational and delicious! We may be up for another adventure in 2017 - let us know!

Hi Mandira, this trip, as you may recall, had been planned and revised over the past year. Thanks to your and Nazir's efforts, we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to India and Nepal. Nazir's suggestion of finishing our trip in Nagarkot was especially appreciated, we viewed the sunrise over the Himalayas from our balcony! Our guide, Mr. Mustafa Shah, made our visit to Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore and Jaipur a very relaxed and pleasant experience. He included our entire tour group to partake in a very colourful Holi celebration, something we'll never forget! Our private tour in Kathmandu was great! Our Kathmandu native guide, Deepak, was very welcoming and we enjoyed our time learning about Nepal, past and present. Everyone we met, associated with Explore India, was professional and very courteous. Our return flight from Kathmandu to Delhi was delayed yet Deezam (sorry if misspelled) was there to pick us up and got us back in time for our flight home later that night. Namaste, and thanks for the email Nazir. My husband and I are still under the powerful influence of India – having thoroughly enjoyed the 2 weeks we had there. It’s really difficult to synthesize our experience but I will try to give some feedback. Both of us felt that we learned so much and really broadened our understanding of cultural and political issues in addition to seeing, tasting, smelling, and tasting some of India’s diversity. I really appreciated the diverse environments: urban, heritage sites, forest reserve, streets/river exposure in Varanasi, the roadside rural life viewed as we traveled between major sites. I’m especially glad that we added on the Varanasi trip which broadened our experience considerably. We were ever so fortunate in the timing (just after the monsoon season) and got to see a relatively ‘green’ India. Several local guides commented that we were a ‘lucky’ group in terms of being in the right places at the right times for certain things – such as seeing tigers, getting to the Taj Mahal just prior to its ‘mudding’. The tour itinerary was well planned and varied – given that any group of 22 people will have different preferences. We found our tour guide to be excellent: knowledgeable, flexible, and always anticipating when/where changes might be needed either for our comfort or safety. Many thanks for that. And he was ever so patient in spite of challenging situations. I’m a cautious traveller (in contrast to my husband) but even I felt very safe. Our guide was extremely good at keeping us together while also allowing plenty of photo ops, cooling down periods, and preparing us for the next point of interest. The tour guide was very good with history and cultural information that made the bus travel time both informative and seem shorter. All contacts were very friendly, courteous, and helpful. One hardly mentioned an issue and it was addressed; To summarize, the trip was amazing! We are so very glad we went and still bask in India’s glow. I can only say Helen and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in India. It was very insightful and not a little unsettling and moving at times. This is as it should be. I had a little list of things I wanted to be able to do with the free time we had, as you know, and I accomplished all of them. The support ‘on the ground’ was good and Yajur was a very good guide. He’s very personable, organized and well informed. Please give him my best regards and convey to him my sincere appreciation for being our Tour Manager. He’s a keeper in my opinion. He provided a lot of very good context and insight into the country and its people as well as its strengths and challenges. His ‘lectures’ on the bus as we traveled I personally found very helpful. They got me thinking, asking questions and engaging him in conversation, when possible, to expand my knowledge (as for me this, along with time on the street, is an important part of travel). He has a lot of useful knowledge of the sites we visited also. That and the local and national newspapers available at the hotels were very helpful in that regard. I read them daily. It was a good way to see the part of India we were able to see, especially given my language limitations and lack of extensive prior knowledge of Indian culture. I had done preparatory reading prior to arriving in India. I came away with a better knowledge base and perspective on a very diverse country of 1.2B people. Enjoyed the accommodation, the food and the services provided also. Increased my tolerance for hot spices (in moderation) and Kingfisher beer too. I really can’t offer anything else beyond what I’ve already said. It was a ‘slice of life’ and I personally was very glad I went. Helen likewise.
