Day 3:
Delhi
After breakfast we will take a tour through Delhi as we venture toward our first stop, the 17th century Old Delhi. We begin exploring Old Delhi by visiting the Jama Mosque, a royal mosque built by the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in 1656. We then ride a bicycle rickshaw through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, the spine of Old Delhi that houses the spice market and jewelers’ lane. After that, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site the Red Fort.
Next, we will visit Humayun’s tomb. Emperor Humayun was the second Mughal Emperor of India. The tomb was built by his widow, Biga Begum (Hajji Begum), in 1569-70, 14 years after his death, at a cost of 1.5 million rupees. The tomb was later used for the burial of various members of the ruling family and contains some 150 graves. It has aptly been described as the ‘necropolis of the Mughal dynasty’.
After lunch we visit the house of Mahatma Gandhi, a place where Mr. Gandhi’s epic life ended on January 30th, 1948. Mahatma Gandhi lived in this house from September 9th, 1947 until his death and the house is home to many treasures and memorial items from the last 144 days of his life. The House was acquired by the Government of India in 1971 and was converted into a National Memorial of Gandhi, “Father of the Nation” and was opened to the public on August 15, 1973. As you walk through Gandhi’s home it’s as though you feel the majesty of his presence still there, a truly fascinating and memorable step back in time that will leave you with a quiet stillness but lifted spirit. The building and the landscape have been preserved to the lush beauty that filled the eyes of the beloved teacher and you will be impressed as you stroll the grounds. Before heading to our hotel, we will see the war memorial India Gate as well as the impressive grounds of the presidential palace.
In the evening enjoy your welcome dinner in your hotel.

FEB, 28 2018: I wanted to let you know that I was very pleased with the tour. The arrangements were excellent. Ashish was an excellent guide. I thought it was very well planned, with appropriate down time but busy schedules. The hotels were all very comfortable and well located. (I was annoyed that Hilton didn't offer free wifi in the rooms but I joined their Hilton Honors program and got free wifi from that.) The buffet style meals were perfect for our needs. It is surprising how quickly wifi has become a must have for most travellers. Keeping the group size small made it easy for us to move as a group. I had never seen the technique of having hawkers bring their wares to the bus, where we could buy or not, without haggling. This was a clever way of minimizing people wandering off for their own purchases and bargaining. The arranged shopping opportunities were also very good. High quality merchandise was offered. It also seemed to be value for money. I look forward to having the opportunity to travel with Explore India again. Joan

Hi Nazir, Sorry for the delay in responding...what with getting back on PST and dealing with Christmas it has been pretty hectic. We very much enjoyed the trip. It was not always easy but it was an adventure and a great education. India is really an amazing country! I have been trying to come up with some suggestions for your trip but I don't really have any. I thought the trip was well organized and went pretty smoothly considering all the ground we covered and the challenges of travelling in India. And of course the currency crisis added to the difficulties. I would definitely recommend the trip to anyone who wants to see India. If I have any further thoughts I will let you know. Regards

My mother and I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you for a wonderful and memorable trip to India. It was so beautifully planned – it is very clear you have put much thought and preparation into these trips. Rajeev was an excellent escort – he was very attentive and saw to our every need. He made a big fuzz over Mom for her birthday – which she said she didn’t want but I think secretly enjoyed!! In addition, he was such a comfort and help to poor Carol, who unfortunately had a medical emergency. The service was above and beyond, in every way! I would highly recommend Explore India to anyone looking for a well run, quality tour in India. We loved every minute of it!

Hello Nasir, I'm back home safely from my trip to India. Thank you so very much for the opportunity to travel with your company, and for encouraging me to go. It was impeccably planned and organized. It was an experience I'll never forget, beautiful, and warm people, rich with tradition and beliefs, and welcoming to foreigners. We even danced in a wedding procession in the street!! Every moment was filled with excitement. Ashish was the most gracious and competent guide we could have had. It was sad to say good-by to him. He took care of us all. Well done, and thank you again. Sincerely,

An amazing experience......it exceeded my expectations. I am a seasoned world traveler and was so very impressed with this tour. Our guide Shah was incredibly informative and I loved listening to his stories about the culture and history of India. I came away feeling that I learned a lot about India....the real India.....and developed a genuine liking for the country and the Indian people. It was a “taste”.....I definitely want to go back and see more! Shah was always in tune to the group’s needs and was very accommodating.....he definitely made the trip a success. He was a true professional in every way. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Accommodations were first class...3 of us shared a room so a very comfortable cot was always set up.....however, at each hotel we had to call for extra towels, coffee mug, pillow etc......we were always served promptly....a minor inconvenience really. I was surprised at the pollution....a heads up might be helpful, as one may want to pack a mask. So many highlights.....of course the Taj Mahal and the Varanasi experience.....but I’ll never forget our tour of the government school and meeting the children, the kitchen at the Sikh temple was another highlight. I loved the safari and being in the rural area for a couple of days.....and of course our beloved bus bizarres..........so incredible. Thank you all! Cindy Henry.

Hi Nazir, Gerd and I had an amazing tour, truly was a trip of a lifetime. From the hotels, to the food, and the transportation we were very comfortable and couldn't ask for more. Yajur is an excellent Tour Director, very professional and extremely efficient as well as a very nice man. Rouf was always making sure that everyone was well looked after. We were all saddened by his family circumstances, which resulted in his having to leave us early. The itinerary is excellent, variety is wonderful. Especially liked the camel ride with the outdoor buffet and drinks. Every day brought something interesting and different. I can't think of anything that should have been done differently. The driver and Tour Director we had in Varanasi were both excellent and we enjoyed our time there. We have only good things to say about Explore India and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone thinking of travelling to India. Thank you for an amazing tour. Sincerely,

I apologise for taking so long to get back to you after our trip to India. I want to thank you very much for having put such a wonderful trip together for Janine and me. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole adventure, the time in Kashmir was magical as were the visits to Jaipur and Agra. I can't think of any part of it that in retrospect we would have done differently.

Thank you for your email requesting our comments on our recent trip to India. Overall, our impression is strongly favourable. We thought that the expedition was well organized, ran smoothly and represented good value. The hotels at which we stayed and the restaurants at which we ate were uniformly excellent. The transportation was comfortable and the sights we saw were interesting. Our guide was well-informed and gave interesting commentaries as well as ensuring that all the arrangements ran smoothly. We would (and have) recommend your company to friends. We would therefore conclude by thanking you for a job well done.
